SIGLOC_AI project

Challenge

La Siesta technologies has developed a family of wildlife tracking systems (biologgers) for location tracking and activity monitoring of endangered species, mainly birds. These devices are being used in movement ecology research to study the behaviour and routines of such species, and in environmental impact studies to assess the potential damage that a new human action may cause in territories where these species live. The objective of the StairwAI’s supported project SIGLOC_AI is to use AI techniques for accurate detection of death, and automatic classification of behavioural patterns directly on these devices (edge computing) without sending data to the backend. For LaSiesta’s business, adding AI based detection of behavioral patterns and death would be a key functionality on our wildlife trackers, helping to create devices with a substantial advantage over the competition. For protected species conservation experts, it would help them to identify areas of routine killings and potential poaching and poisoning activities, with the ability to act quickly in these situations.

Solution

The project started on 17/10. This will be updated in the upcoming weeks.
